Yet Heffernan, who graduated from Cornell University with a degree in English literature, is as much a student of Goddard and Bertolucci as he is of Ford and Peckinpah. Starring Samuel Jackson and a mess of slithering reptiles, Snakes on a Plane is an exuberant reflection of his multi-genre affection for cinema.
