Among those receiving gongs in the Queen's Birthday Honours List announced today are Russell T. Davies, Lynda La Plante, Margaret Drabble and Victoria Wood.
Davies said of his OBE: "I'm delighted to accept, and I hope it does the whole industry a bit of good, for the writing of television drama to be recognised."

Congratulations to all of the writers who were honoured; it's so seldom one sees the word "honour" and "writer" in the same sentence.
ReplyDeleteBut isn't it ironic that Russell T. got his gong for reviving Doctor Who, which brings millions of export pounds into Britain and which is the also BBC's top children's and family show... at the same time that the Beeb is drastically cutting all its children's shows? As have all the television companies. And the government has let them.
It's a funny old world, isn't it?
