Barrington Bayley, who has died aged 71, was a writer of metaphysical, absurdist "space opera" - the science-fiction subgenre of epic adventure/romance stories set in space. He was perhaps best known for those he inspired, among them the writers M John Harrison, Iain M Banks, William Gibson, Bruce Sterling and the so-called "cyberpunks".There's lots more information about Barrington Bayley on this fan site.
