South Park creators warned over Muhammad depiction

From BBC News:
Islamists have warned the creators of TV show South Park they could face violent retribution for depicting the Prophet Muhammad in a bear suit.

A posting on the website of the US-based group, Revolution Muslim, told Matt Stone and Trey Parker they would "probably wind up like Theo Van Gogh".

The Dutch film-maker was shot and stabbed to death in 2004 by an Islamist angered by his film about Muslim women.

A subsequent episode of the cartoon bleeped out references to Muhammad.
Stone and Parker talked about the episode in a recent interview with Boing Boing. Apparently online broadcasts of the episode have been halted.

These crackpot Islamists never batted an eyelid in the Super Best Friends where Muhammad pbuh was shown in full and was not disrespected in any way.

How about the WGGB seek an opinion of moderate Muslims who saw the episode, instead of these web groups that only represent the lunatic fringe?

  2. Agreed: those making threats don't represent all Islamists. But changes do seem to have been made to a broadcast, for whatever reason.

Perhaps that should have been the focus of the story - not sure there's any evidence that the 'threats' had any impact.

Would be delighted to hear comments from anyone who saw the programme.

I saw it and as ever a very funny episode this season. If anyone should be outraged from that episode it's the other celebrities featured ESPECIALLY Tom Cruise.

I found that the point of the episode was that Muhammad pbuh is seen as above being a target of satire/criticism and so when Tom Cruise demands Muhammad pbuh to settle a lawsuit they go to ridiculous lengths NOT to show him hence the costumes and hiding him in a U-Haul. As I said earlier it was handled well and I somehow feel that this manufactured controversy is just a way of boosting ratings and inciting trouble where it's not warranted.

I hope Ms Brosnan condemns the above blanket insult to muslims as much as the vitriol I got for posing hard questions on Trade Union law and what the Guild are doing about it.
