The Bechdel Test for women in films

Via screenwriter John August's blog, a 'test' first published by Allison Bechdel that asks whether two female characters in a film ever speak to each other about a subject other than a man.

  1. Question 4: Are the female characters older than Jennifer Aniston and not dying batty grandmothers/ mothers/ teachers known by a sweet but wacky nickname given to them decades ago by toddlers?

None of the many women in my films talk about their boyfriends and my most recent film had almost an entire cast of women over forty. The audience loved it - critics probably hated it!
