The Guild in Cannes

Guild Deputy General Secretary Anne Hogben writes:
There is now a growing number of members of the Writers’ Guild attending the Cannes Film Festival. If you are going to Cannes next week and would like to be kept in an email loop with fellow Guild members please send an email to anne@writersguild.org.uk. There will be a daily meet-up point at the UK Film Council pavilion at 6.00 pm so do drop by to meet up and have a chat.
The 60th Cannes Film Festival runs from 16–27 May 2007.

  1. It looks like it might be quite an exciting year for screenwriters in Cannes. Our colleagues at the Federation of European Screenwriters will be announcing the Screenwriters Manifesto. If you have not already added your name to the online petition I would urge you to do so now http://www.scenaristes.org/manifesto.htm. We all hope it will be a good opportunity to raise the profile of screenwriters in Cannes.

Note for your diary – the big party at the Screenwriters Villa will be on the evening of Wednesday 23rd May. More details to follow. I hope you will be able to stop by the UK Film Council Pavilion for one of our daily meet-up at 6.00 pm to catch up and exchange news and so on.

By the way, I hope you are all packing at least one formal dress in case you get a ticket to a premiere – that means a dinner jacket for the guys – they won’t let you up the red carpet unless you are dressed in style!

Any first-timers to Cannes should take a bit of time to study the procedure on the official Festival website

This explains all the ropes about getting your accreditation badge etc.

If I can be of any help please don’t hesitate to give me a call or send me a text so that we can meet up.
